Barn owls are different and mystical. I just learned that barn owl chicks in the nest share food and make sure all their siblings get to eat. I read an article in Audubon.org by Emilie Silber about what some researchers from Switzerland discovered—baby barn owls don’t fight over food. They make sounds (communicate) to each other to tell the others how hungry they are, and the chicks with fuller stomachs put off eating to let their hungrier siblings eat. Only one offspring can be fed at a time. The others actually wait, and that way all the nestlings get fed and all of them survive. What a wonderful thing to learn about.
